summer camps

Hello WonderHere followers! This is the final section of this blog series, and it represents the final 4 camps that we will be offering this summer at WonderHere. Each camp has been intricately designed to both inspire and challenge each child while showing them that learning can be so much fun! We truly hope you have found some of our camps to be a fit for the learner in your household. Each student coming to our camps will experience a wide variety of activities while also engaging in the more traditional elements of camp that we all love… the games, team competitions, crafts, and positive social interaction. We have been receiving daily phone calls and emails from families inquiring about our camps, asking how they can have their child be involved in what we have to offer. And whenever our email notifies us that another camp seat has been filled, we are so encouraged! Thank you so much for taking time to learn about our camps… we hope that once you finish reading this conclusion to this blog series, you will have a clear understanding of what each camp represents and will let us fill a week of your child’s summer with WONDER.

Camps for the Week of July 25-29

Reading with the Stars (K-2nd Grade)
Who said reading was boring?! Not I! In fact, when discussing summer plans- my students were shocked to learn that I most looked forward to any downtime where I could pick up a new book to read on a beach somewhere. Sit and read… a BOOK? They were astonished! Well, it might not be a beach… but at our studio we will show our young learners that reading is not just done to prepare for a test, complete busy work, or participate in other nonsensical tasks that don’t connect to their lives. Reading is apart of the very fabric of who we are. It inspires us. It moves us. It makes us laugh. It teaches us new things! Through games, crafts, songs, and targeted activities, we will sharpen the reading skills and bring out the reading star in each of them! Our goal is to develop in our students’ confidence and joy in reading, and help them to recognize their own shine more than they already do! Register Here

So You Think You Can Dance… CAMP (2nd-6th Grade)
Learning comes in all shapes and sizes, and the lessons you learn reach so far beyond basic books and desks and classrooms. At WonderHere, we believe so strongly in the value of learning through the arts and through real world experiences. That is why offering a comprehensive dance program at an affordable rate was a must for us! We simply had to have the arts as apart of who WonderHere is. Our week of dance camp is the perfect opportunity for you to get a glimpse into what our fall dance classes will be like… and they will NOT disappoint!

This is an excellent time to introduce to you a member of our WonderHere team, Amanda Thenor… my sister-in-law!

Amanda

Amanda is an elementary school teacher from Delray Beach with a passion to see young children enjoy learning. She began dancing at Many but One Dance Studio in South Florida. This experience helped give her a more positive outlet in life and develop a strength to push through when things were mentally or physically difficult. Through her time at this studio, she learned to perform, persevere, and strengthen her gifts in an inviting environment. She has 14+ years of dancing experience under her belt and has been professionally trained in ballet, jazz, pointe, contemporary, hip hop, and tap. She travelled in a dance company for 9 years and has mentored many girls through a local dance school. She has used her formal Montessori training while teaching for the past 3 years at a Montessori school in South Florida in grades Pre-K-2nd. She was homeschooled K-12 and attributes this to her ability to teach hands-on and meet kids where they’re at. She strives to see students through the lens of their strengths and foster that strength to do amazing things that even they didn’t know they could do.

So You Think You Can Dance camp is for any lover of dance, no matter their experience. Amanda is excited to introduce the campers to a variety of dance genres through choreography, games, and even a small performance at the end of the week. You kids will be dancing circles around you in no time after attending this fabulous week with Amanda and the rest of us here at WonderHere! Register Here

The Amazing Book Race (3rd-6th Grade)
This camp is for the true lover of reading, one with whom I can truly relate! Let the pages really take you on a journey as you read from a short reading list of novels carefully compiled by our WonderHere teachers. During this week of camp, each student will engage in thoughtful book studies, exciting and challenging reading projects, socratic discussions, formal debates, and lots of other engaging activities to get them thinking and further cultivate their love of reading. Even the most reluctant of readers will find a hard time not diving in head first when they get their hands on our reading list! We guarantee they won’t stop talking about the books they have unpacked while hanging out with us at WonderHere. The Amazing Book Race will surely not disappoint!

When deciding which summer camp weeks are best for your child, take time to explore this blog series again and ask questions if we can clarify anything for you. These camps are not the traditional summer camps you might be familiar with, and we are excited about that. WonderHere summer camps are so much more than a place for your child to go for a few hours a week. These camps are designed to inspire and enrich your child, and give you peace of mind while they do so!
