You have been patient with us and have been supporting our dream before we even had a building. You came to our pop up classes and informational meetings, and you stood in line to play our games during First Friday. And we are infinitely grateful 🙂 Now that WonderHere has a home, we would like to cordially invite you to stop by for a visit and allow your kids to spend some time with us this summer. We will spend this summer wow-ing your socks off and giving you just a taste of what WonderHere has to offer. You won’t find anything else quite like our camps, and your kids will be begging to sign up for one more week!
During this blog mini-series, I want to give you more information regarding these one-of-a-kind summer camps, and my goal is to convince you to exit this blog and IMMEDIATELY sign your child up for our camps. Just a heads up…. each of our camps only have a very conservative number of available spots. We want our camps to be small in size to offer our students a more personalized WONDER-filled camp week, so do not delay! We want your children to be the FIRST of our WonderHere learners and you will, too! So, let me get started! We have 12 separate camps, and they will run for 6 weeks, 2 camps running at the same time (from 8 AM- 5 PM), for just $75… IMPRESSIVE right?! Of these 12 camps, we will share “stop and be awed” details about 4 of our summer camps for the next 3 weeks during our blog mini-series. Okaaayyy, let me for real get started!
Each camp week is thematic in nature and focused on specific learning that couples play and fun with concrete learning and challenging tasks. However, camp is still camp and we will be having traditional camp FUN, like a cherry on our figurative camp cupcake. Songs, group games, and team competitions (you pack snacks & lunch, we serve… peanut free please). Our camps lack nothing, and our team of certified and passionate teachers will fill your child’s summer with learning and challenge.
Up first… The Game of Life Camp, designed for rising 3rd-6th graders, June 20-24. This camp week is sure to leave the kids feeling like the next Vanna White or Bob Barker, all the while learning about history and cultures worldwide. Kids will enjoy exploring familiar board games, old-time games their grandparents will get excited about, and games they have never heard of from all around the globe. They will even be given the opportunity to develop and build their very own unique game and share it during Show and Share Cafe held on Friday 5:00-6:00 PM for parents and friends to show off their newest board game. From Africa’s Mancala (a game even my 2nd graders play during game day with love) to Chinese Checkers (which actually originated from Germany and is not a version of Checkers at all), to more obscure games from Chile “Run, Run, La Guaraca” and more. Travel the world with us, play board games, learn culture and history… all at the same time!
Next Up… our Whose Line is it Anyway? Camp Also on the week of June 20-24, this camp is for the young aspiring actor or actress within. We will explore improv, playwriting, stage and costume design, stage makeup, and a wide variety of genres (classics, reader’s theatre, drama, comedy, and musicals). To wrap up the week of ACTion, students will take their new learning to the “stage” during our Show and Share Cafe at the end of the week. Theatre is a great way to improve reading fluency, and cultivate public speaking confidence.
The 2nd week of camp (June 27-July 1) we are running our BIZcamp! This camp will inspire innovation! Through listening to guest speakers who have opened small businesses in town to taking walking field trips to downtown Lakeland to visit small business and develop respect for our Lakeland entrepreneurs… kids will fall in love with business, learning, economics, and local commerce. To top off the week at BIZcamp, students will develop their own business plan and market their idea during a “Business Fair” event at Friday’s Share and Show Cafe. Let’s invest in our kids and our local economy at the same time by providing our children with tools to dream about being their own boss while instilling in them confidence, new knowledge, and the power and FUN in dreaming big!
The last camp I am going to be letting you have an inside scoop on through Part 1 of this blog mini-series is the LEGOventures Camp, also held the week of June 27-July 1. Everyone loves playing with those colorful little bricks and building bridges, homes, and even creatures from outer space! LEGOs are where it’s at! But did you know that there is much learning to be had through the exploration of this childhood favorite toy? Students lucky enough to be a part of LEGOventurers will explore math, engineering, robot building, writing, and much much much more! This camp will have your child undusting that big yellow box of LEGOs and creating with a new wind of inspiration! These little engineers will show off their best creations during Friday’s Share and Show cafe and will take with them at the end of this camp a new confidence to create and rekindle a curiosity to explore science, math, technology, and engineering fields.
Summer camps are an excellent option for both parent and child. Give yourself a much needed break for a few weeks and let us challenge and inspire your beloved little one during WonderHere summer camps. Avoid those dreaded words “I’m bored”… they will surely never be bored at WonderHere Camp!
