Movement & machines Unit Study

Kids have been experimenting with force and motion since the first time they climbed a slide backward. The Movement & Machines Unit Study is a beautifully designed, six-week exploration of that instinct, digging into the science of how things move and the simple machines quietly doing the heavy lifting all around us.

Packed with rich content and hands-on discovery, this Unit Study travels from pushes and pulls to friction, gravity, magnets, and the six simple machines, weaving in weekly literature, an Ella Fitzgerald composer study, nature journaling, and project time along the way. Children build a working pulley system, engineer Lego foosball, swing a wrecking ball, and hunt for screws and levers hiding in plain sight around the playground.

Everything you need to run it comes with it. The accompanying Digital Guide holds a linked shopping list, project time planning pages, vocabulary cards, video read alouds, and a printable How Things Move board game. The companion Novel Study pairs the unit with Ada Twist and the Perilous Pants, turning one runaway pair of helium pants into six weeks of mentor sentences, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension work, finishing with a novel party worth looking forward to!
